Bulldogs come up short against UC Davis in MPSF opener
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State lacrosse team dropped its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference opener to UC Davis on Saturday, 19-10. The Bulldogs move to 7-5 on the season with a 0-1 conference mark.
The Bulldogs were led by freshman Sydney Skalstad who scored three goals against the Aggies. Sophomore Hannah Krats contributed a significant amount to the Bulldog offense with a goal and a team-high two assists.
FIRST HALF
Fresno State got out to a hot start, taking a 5-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play before UC Davis got on the board with 22:28 on the clock.
Skalstad scored her first goal of the afternoon to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 6-1 with 20:10 left to go in the first half. From that point on, the momentum shifted in favor of the Aggies as they went on to score 12 unanswered goals in a 25 minute span.
The Aggies scored six goals in the final 13 minutes of the first half to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
UC Davis kept firing and opened the second half with six goals in 12 minutes to extend its lead to 13-6 with 17:50 left in the game.
Sophomore Megan Walaitis put an end to the Bulldog scoring drought with her first goal of the season with 17:10 on the clock. The Aggies tacked on three more before Fresno State could find its offensive groove.
Skalstad and junior Jordyn Pandolfo scored back-to-back goals for the 'Dogs to make it a 16-9 game in favor of the Aggies with 5:31 left.
The Aggies scored two more before Skalstad tallied her third goal for her sixth hat trick of the season. UC Davis' Brooke Long shot one in with one second left on the game clock to give the Aggies a 9-point victory.
