Fresno State falls to No. 12 Stanford in NCAA Tournament

STANFORD, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team fell to No. 12 Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 4-0, on Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The Bulldogs made their first tournament appearance since 2012.
Fresno State finishes the 2019 season with an overall record of 18-11 (5-2, MW) under fourth-year head coach Luke Shields.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles – Fresno State had Zdenek Derkas and Patrik Pech at the No. 1 position, Mantas Bugailiskis and Cem Erturk at the No. 2 position along with Angus Bradshaw and Cagatay Soke at the No. 3 position.
Stanford posted two quick 6-0 wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 position to clinch the doubles point, and take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
The match at the No. 2 position was left unfinished at 4-3 with the Bulldogs fighting back.
Singles – The Cardinal extended its lead to 2-0 when Erturk fell to Timothy Sah 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 position. Stanford posted its third point at the No. 3 position after Jeremy Moser was bested by Sameer Kumar 6-0, 6-2.
Sangeet Sridhar clinched the match for Stanford, defeating Soke 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 position.
The matches at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 positions were left unfinished. Derkas was putting up a fight against No. 13 Axel Geller, with the second set knotted 3-3 at the No. 1 position. Bradshaw was also battling when the match was clinched, taking a 4-2 lead over his opponent in the second set at the No. 2 position.
