Shields inks Aleschev for spring 2020

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State men's tennis head coach Luke Shields announced the signing of Alexey Aleschev for the 2020 spring season, announced on Wednesday. Aleschev will join the Bulldogs as a freshman with four years of eligibility.Â

"Alexey brings a lot of experience to the table," Shields said. "He has played at a very high level and knows what it's like to compete against the best in the world. He will fit in well with the high standards that we have for our team. He is really excited to be apart of a team. I think the extra level of motivation that you get being apart of a special team will really help to flourish on the court. We are really excited to have Alexey as a Bulldog."Â

The Moscow, Russia native has been ranked as high as No. 1179 in the ITF World Tennis Rankings in singles and No. 1437 in doubles. During his juniors career, Aleschev reached a ranking of No. 42.

Aleschev is the fourth member of the Bulldogs' 2019 signing class. Shields' announced the signing of Johannes Seeman, Daniel Baturyn and Antonin Stepanek earlier this year. The Bulldogs have notched the No. 22-ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to Tennis Recruiting Network. Fresno State is the only Mountain West team listed in the 25-team ranking.
