Three Bulldogs garner USTFCCCA All-Academic honors

Fresno State lands three on the list for the second consecutive year.
NEW ORLEANS – Fresno State seniors Varvara Klyuchnikova, Jestena Mattson and Maja Pogorevc earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced on Monday. In total, 902 women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

Mattson made two trips to the NCAA Championships this year, earning second-team All-America honors in both appearances. The native of Parkland, Oregon also won both the indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon at the Mountain West Championships. This is the second straight season Mattson earned a All-Academic status.

Klyuchnikova was a two-time All-MW honoree this this year, capturing a bronze medal in the high jump during at the indoor championships and a silver at the outdoor championships.

Pogorevc earned a pair of medals this year, placing third in the 400 meters at the MW Indoor Championships while being a member of the team's 4x400 relay which placed second.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
