LIMA, Peru -Â Fresno State junior Brigitte Thibault was one of four golfers selected to represent Team Canada at the 2019 Pan American Games, held Aug. 8-11 at Lima Golf Club. The Canadian team was represented by two female golfers and two male golfers who competed as a mixed team, as well as individually.Â
Thibault carded a 6-over-par 290 (74-73-68-75) to place T-9th among 32 women in action from around the globe.
As an individual, Thibault finished the tournament in the top 10 after moving up and down the leaderboard throughout the course of play. She fired a 3-over-par 74 in the opening round and a 2-over-par 73 in the second before finding her groove as she shot her lowest round of the tournament with a 3-under-par 68 in the third round. Her third round total tied for the lowest single round score in any round by any golfer in the women's individual competition.
At the end of the third round on Saturday, Thibault sat T-5th heading into the final day before falling to ninth place with a 4-over-par 75 in round four.Â
With the help of Thibault's top 10 finish, the Canadian mixed team earned Canada's first-ever medal in the event at the Pan American Games. The Canadian team, made up of four golfers - Thibualt, Mary Angelica Parsons, Austin Connelly and Joey Savoie - placed third in the mixed team event to earn a bronze medal for Team Canada.
Canada had 45 teams with 490 total athletes represented at the 2019 Pan American Games. With competition running from July 26-Aug.11, Team Canada finished third with 152 total medals.
