Muti earns back-to-back nods to Polynesian Player of the Year watch list

HONOLULU – Fresno State offensive lineman Netane Muti was named to the 2019 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award watch list on Tuesday, announced by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame. The Fresno State junior is a repeat selection after earning a spot on the list prior to the 2018 season.

The award, which is in its sixth year, is presented annually to the most outstanding Polynesian college football player that epitomizes great ability and integrity. The winner will be announced on Dec. 17 with five finalists being unveiled on Dec. 5. The presentation of the award will be held during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Celebration Dinner (Jan. 17, 2020) at the Sheraton Waikiki and they will also be recognized at halftime of the Polynesian Bowl (Jan. 18, 2020) at Aloha Stadium.

Muti is one of 62 players named to the watch list which consists of members from 32 FBS schools. He is one of 28 athletes selected to the list prior to each of the last two seasons.

A glance at Muti:
* Suffered season-ending injury during the second half of the Sept. 8 contest at Minnesota – started two games in 2018 at left tackle.
* Was on 2018 preseason Polynesian College Football Player of the Year watch list.Â
* Was an All-Mountain West honorable mention selection as a redshirt freshman in 2017.
* Started all 14 games in 2017 as a first-year player.
* As a member of the 2017 offensive line unit, helped hold six opponents without a sack over the season's 14 games while the maximum allowed was two, recorded by Alabama (Sept. 9) and Boise State (Dec. 2).
