FRESNO, Calif. - The No 9 Fresno State equestrian team kicked off its 2019-20 season with its annual Red vs. Blue Scrimmage on Saturday morning at the Student Horse Center. The Red Team topped the Blue with a close 11-10 victory.
Â
The Bulldogs broke out into two teams and rode against each other in the four events. 35 riders on the 36-rider roster competed on Saturday, including two for demonstration rides.
Â
The Bulldog freshmen showed their skills, winning five total points and three MOP honors on the day. Ana Bertozzi was named the Fences MOP with an 83 to Hana Beiling's 80. Annastasia Anstead earned a MOP with an 82 to Beiling's 66 in the Flat, and Julianne Kelley earned the Reining MOP with a 71.5 to Lexee Padrick's 65.
Â
Senior Nicole Campbell earned the Horsemanship MOP with a 74 to Alexis Steele's 72.5.
Â
"Today was a very productive day for us to see where we are at," said head coach Eric Hubbard. "I couldn't be more proud of our young team. Three freshmen came out with MOPs and very impressive rides. As a whole, there were some really great rides today. There are always little things to work on, especially as we head to South Carolina next week, so we will get back to work this week before our season officially starts."
