Derkas earns ITA Preseason National Ranking

TEMPE, Ariz. – Fresno State senior Zdenek Derkas is No. 63 in the 2019-20 Oracle ITA Division I Preseason National Rankings, announced by the organization on Tuesday morning.
Derkas is the first Bulldog to earn a preseason ITA national ranking since Remi Boutillier in 2012.
No. 63 marks a new career-high ranking for the Czech Republic native, passing his previous career-high ranking of No. 118 last spring.
Derkas earns this ranking after a decorated 2019 season. He was named the Mountain West Player of the Year after leading Fresno State to its first-ever Mountain West Championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012. Derkas was also named to the All-MW Singles Team after posting a perfect 7-0 record at the No. 1 singles position. He compiled a team-best 25-9 overall singles record, 20-6 in dual play. Derkas defeated six ranked opponents and finished the season on a 13-match winning streak.
After three seasons at Fresno State, Derkas owns an overall singles record of 53-17 and remains undefeated in conference play, 17-0.
The senior will represent the MW conference at the ITA Masters, and has been selected to play in the qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships.
