'Dogs wrap up action-packed weekend

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team finished a busy weekend with three Bulldogs competing in fall tournaments. No. 63 Zdenek Derkas represented the Mountain West at the ITA Oracle Masters, playing in both singles and mixed doubles draws. Daniel Baturyn and Bailey Gong traveled North to compete in the UC Davis Fall Invitational.
ITA ORACLE MASTERS
Singles – Derkas was bested in the round of 32 by Corrado Summaria of Pepperdine 6-2, 6-1. He moved to the consolation bracket, where he defeated Kris Van Wyk of Weber State in the first round 6-4, 6-4. Derkas moved on to the next round to post a 7-5, 7-6(3) victory over William Mottet of Texas A&M CC. His weekend came to a close when he fell to Gui Osorio of San Diego 6-2, 6-2.
Mixed Doubles – Derkas played with fellow Bulldog Shir Azran in the mixed doubles competition. The duo fell to Stuart (Mercer) and Kozarov (Furman) 6-0 in the round of 32.
UC DAVIS FALL INVITATIONAL
Singles – Baturyn made his Bulldog debut over the weekend. He fell in the round of 32 to Santiago Sarudiansky of Sonoma State in a close match 6-4, 7-5. The freshman moved to the consolation bracket where he defeated Joshua Snowdon-Poole of Sacramento State 6-2, 6-1. Baturyn also posted wins in extra matches against Pacific's Nathan Hampton (6-4, 7-5) and Sacramento State's Hermont Legaspi (6-3, 6-3).
Gong was bested by Hampton of Pacific 6-4, 6-1. He moved to the consolation bracket, where he logged a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Giovanni Fragalle of Holy Names. Gong played two extra matches, falling to Holy Names' Javier Luque (5-7, 6-0, 10-8) and Portland's Arjun Mariyappa 6-2, 6-1.
Doubles – Baturyn and Gong paired up to compete in the Doubles B draw. The duo fell to Jalali and Swanson of UC Davis 8-0. They moved to the consolation bracket where they posted an 8-5 victory over De Simon and Fragalle of Holy Names.

Fresno State will host the Bulldog Fall Classic Oct. 4 through Oct. 6 at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
