FRESNO, Calif. - As the wait for the 2019-20 Fresno State women's golf season winds down, GoBulldogs.com met up with junior Brigitte Thibault to talk about her off-season. It was a busy summer for the Rosemère, Quebec native as she represented Team Canada on its tour over the last few months.
Â
A season ago, Thibault finished her sophomore campaign with a Mountain West championship title in April which earned her a bid to the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf Auburn Regional. She was also selected as one of 72 women to compete at the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amatuer, which took place in April.
Â
Thibault then set her focus on representing her home country on Team Canada. She kicked off the summer with the Ontario Women's Amateur Championship where she claimed the title. Thibault kept busy on different courses all around the world and she explains her journey with GoBulldogs.com. We get a deeper look inside her summer as well as what she has planned for the upcoming 2019-20 season as a Bulldog.
Â
What did your 2019 summer play consist of?
THIBAULT: "I traveled all summer, so it was obviously a busy summer. I never really had a break, I was traveling with Team Canada and we went everywhere. We were in Canada, then Ireland for the British Am, and then Peru for the Pan Am Games. It was a fun year and I was able to top it off with the Ladies Professional Golf Association in Toronto, so that was a fun experience. It was my second time on tour, so to get to see and feel where I want to be is very nice."
Â
Where was your favorite place to visit?
THIBAULT: "Probably home [Canada]. I don't get a lot of time to be home, so when I can have a much time as I can with my family, it is the place where I can best relax."
Â
Where was your favorite place to play?
THIBAULT: "I really like to be in California because I am not effected by the weather. So, any place that has good weather like this is great for me during season. Traveling around the world with Team Canada was super fun all-around. Getting to visit new places was a fun experience."
Â
What have you learned in your play this summer that can be used to roll into your junior season as a Bulldog?
THIBAULT: "I try to take in as much as possible everyday. My own personal goal is to get better one day at a time. If I get better one day, then that satisfies me. I gained a lot of experience in playing in front of a lot of big crowds and learning to control my emotions and deal with the press and everything that comes with the game. This summer, I had a glimpse of my future so it was fun to be able to see how it is."
Â
What are your goals for this season?
THIBAULT: "Everybody is asking me that. Last year was kind of a hard year to top since I did all of the things that I wanted to. For me, this year, I want to set a personal goal for each event and reach them. I am trying not to compare myself to last year because you can put so much pressure on yourself with things like that. I won the Mountain West, I went to Augusta, I went to the LPGA, and all of these amazing things that happened in the same year make me want to concentrate on that personal goal that week and focus on that."
Â
What is your message for the team this season?
THIBAULT: "I try to be a great leader for my team. I make sure I talk to everybody, check up on them and see how they feel about their game, their outside feelings and their inside feelings as well. I make sure to check up on them and make sure they keep working hard and don't compare themselves. I remind them that a lot because it kills you mentally. I remind them to set their own personal goals."
