FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team finished its three-match homestand with a 2-1 loss to CSU Bakersfield at the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium, on Sunday night.
Sophomore transfer Mariona Segales continues to ignite the Bulldogs offense this season, scoring her second goal of the season. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first half, the Bulldogs gave up a fast-break goal and a free kick shot in the second half. Fresno State wasn't able to recover from the one-goal deficit, resulting in the first loss of the season.
"I think we showed a little bit of complacency," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "It's good to have a confident team, but you can't have a complacent team. This game was a lessoned learned, and we give credit to CSU Bakersfield for grinding it out. I reminded our team that this game showed us situations that we can have control over going forward."
Fresno State falls to 1-1-1 (0-0-0 MW) on the season.
Tori Nicolo, Kylie Lucero, Audrey Reyna, Megan Amick, Lorena Montanes, Segales, Melissa Ellis, Shantay Tamez, Robyn McCarthy, Jordan Brown and Bailee Kern logged the start for the Bulldogs, with Milena Zink in goal.

Fresno State took its 1-0 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs outshot the Roadrunners 7-1 and took more corner kicks 7-1 during the first 45 minutes of the match.
CSU Bakersfield came out of the halftime huddle ready to even the score. The Roadrunners scored on a fast break in the 57th minute, tying the match 1-1. The momentum swung further in CSU Bakersfield's direction when a foul in the goalkeeper box led to a close-range free kick, the Roadrunners converted the free kick to take a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute.
