Thibault set for return trip to Augusta National

FRESNO, Calif. – Junior Brigitte Thibault, of the Fresno State women's golf team, accepted an invitation on Saturday to compete at the second annual Augusta National Women's Amateur, which will take place April 1-4 in Augusta, Ga. The Canadian born Bulldog also earned the opportunity to participate at last year's inaugural event.
"My heart is filled with gratitude," said Thibault. "It's an honor to be the only Canadian in the field representing my country and I'm blessed to live this dream once again this year."
Beginning the week prior to the 84th Masters Tournament, an elite field of international women amateurs will compete over 54 holes of stroke play. The field consists of 72 players who get invitations.
The first two rounds will take place on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club, April 1-2. The field is then cut to 30 players after 36 holes before the final round takes place at Augusta National on April 4.
The entire field of 72 will have the opportunity to play Augusta National on April 3, which is deemed an official practice round for the 30 players who make the cut.
"What an extraordinary honor for Brigitte to be invited once again to the ANWA," said Fresno State women's golf head coach Emily Loftin. "I'm so proud and thrilled for her. Brigitte once again has the opportunity to represent the Red Wave and her home country at this pinnacle event in women's amateur golf."
Thibault, who hails from Rosemère, Quebec, earned the invitation as the current No. 1 ranked women's amateur golfer in Canada, as she did a year ago. She is currently ranked 141st internationally.
The Fresno State junior has already had an illustrious collegiate career having secured the 2019 Mountain West Individual Championship, doing so in wire-to-wire fashion. In just 23 career tournaments as a Bulldog, Thibault has 18 top 25 finishes, and 11 top 10's.
Thibault carded a 71.83 average score over 12 rounds in four tournaments this past fall. To close out the fall semester, Thibault earned a T-6th finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. She has had six consecutive top 10 finishes dating back to the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational in March of 2019.
A year ago, the then-sophomore, fell short of qualifying for the final round of the inaugural ANWA. The first two rounds were played at Champions Retreat Golf Club. She carded a 7-over 79 in the first round and a 3-over 75 in the second round. Alike this season, she still had an opportunity of a lifetime playing at Augusta National Golf Club during the Saturday practice round.
Provided the winning individual remain an amateur, the 2020 Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women's Amateurs, the 2020 U.S. Women's Open, the 2020 Women's British Open, and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible for one year.
NBC Sports will produce and broadcast three hours of live final-round coverage at Augusta National from 9 a.m. – Noon PT on April 4. NBC Sports will also provide pre-event promotion across NBCUniversal's portfolio, while Golf Channel will deliver highlights, live reports and news coverage throughout the event, including onsite during the first two competitive rounds at Champions Retreat. Additionally, Golf Channel's "Live rrom the Masters" will commence on April 3 from Augusta National and wrap ANWA coverage on April 4 and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals on April 5. The Masters, 2020 PGA Event, will take place April 9-12.
