With the December nonconference games now finalized, the Bulldogs are planning for a 27-game schedule during the 2020-21 men's basketball season.
FRESNO, Calif. --Â The Fresno State men's basketball team is set to tip off its nonconference schedule with three games in the first six days of the season, including a Thanksgiving Eve opener at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State is scheduled to open the 2020-21 season when the 'Dogs host the William Jessup University Warriors on Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. PT.
Fresno State will then compete in a multi-team event with the Pacific Tigers and UC Riverside Highlanders. The Bulldogs will play at Pacific on Nov. 27 and return home to face UCR on Nov. 30.
In December, Fresno State is slated to play four nonconference games, including a road game at Pepperdine on Dec. 5, followed by three home contests with CSUN on Dec. 8, Cal Poly on Dec. 12 and Fresno Pacific on Dec. 19.
The Bulldogs then plan to start Mountain West play in Fort Collins during the final week of December to begin a 20-game conference schedule under a modified format within the context of state, county and local guidelines.  The development of the updated 2020-21 MW basketball format emphasized the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff while significantly reducing travel.
MW teams will face each other in a two-game series in the same week with a one-day break between contests with Fresno State playing home series against Wyoming, San Jose State, New Mexico, Utah State and San Diego State, while traveling to play at Colorado State, Nevada, Boise State, Air Force and UNLV this season.
The format adjustments create flexibility throughout the season to potentially reschedule games which may need to be postponed as the schedule plays out. This is a one-year model adopted specifically to address the unique challenges of the current COVID-19 pandemic.
