COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State junior Brigitte Thibault was selected as the Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week for her performance at the Rebel Beach Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, the conference announced on Thursday. This is Thibault's second conference honor of the season as she was named the October MW Golfer of the Month this fall. The Bulldog has earned two of the four honors given by the Mountain West so far this season.
Â
"This is an outstanding honor for Brigitte, particularly for kicking off the spring with so much momentum," said head coach Emily Loftin. "There are a lot of good things happening for her inside of her game. It is a great testament to all of her hard work and it certainly is an honor that she deserves after finishing under par all three days and leading the field in birdies. It is great for her to be recognized by the conference as the most outstanding player of the week. It is an exciting start for her and there is more to come."
Â
Thibault led the 'Dogs at their spring season-opening tournament with a 6-under-par 210 (70-71-69) which tied for her lowest three-round total of the season. Her third round score (69) tied for her lowest round of the season. Thibault earned a third place finish at the event to bring her streak of consecutive top 10 finishes to seven, and her second top five finish of the season.
Â
The junior Bulldog led the 66-golfer field in birdies and par 5 scoring in the spring opening tournament. She also helped Fresno State to lead the tournament in eagles as she had one and freshman Jinyoung Yun had one.
Â
Fresno State carded its second lowest two-round total at the conclusion of the first 36 holes with a 572 (286-286) on Monday. The Bulldogs continued their run at the tournament firing a 289 in the final round to finish with the program's third lowest three-round total (861). The Bulldogs were just one of two teams to shoot under par in the tournament. No. 3-ranked USC claimed the win at the tournament with a 25-under 839.
Â
The Bulldogs return to action as a team next Monday at the Gold Rush Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State. Members of the Bulldog women's golf team will also participate in The Prospector, and individuals only event, on the same days.
