Bulldogs in second after day one at Gold Rush

SEAL BEACH, Calif. -Â The Fresno State women's golf team kicked off play at The Gold Rush with a 583 (291-291) showing in the first 36 holes to finish day one of the Long Beach State-hosted event in second place, just one stroke behind tournament leader Georgia.

Fresno State and Georgia battled for the top spot throughout the day, but a late surge from Georgia put them at the top of the leaderboards after day one. Sophomore Harriet Lynch leads the Bulldogs with a 2-under-par 142 (73-69) to sit in second place through two rounds. Lynch fired her first round in the 60's of the season on Monday. Lynch is one stroke behind the tournament leader Celeste Dao, who is participating in the event as an individual from Georgia. The Bulldog sophomore is one of just two golfers in the 74-woman field who shot below 70 in the opening pair of rounds at the Old Ranch Country Club on Monday. She fired seven Birdies on her way to her second place showing.Â

Senior Kristin Simonsen (73-72) and junior Brigitte Thibault (70-75) share the T5th spot after 36 holes at The Gold Rush. The Bulldogs shot a 1-over-par 145 on the opening day of the tournament. Thibault leads the tournament in par 4 scoring and fired seven Birdies on Monday. Simonsen contributed with five Birdies of her own.Â

Freshman Jinyoung Yun is T21st with a 7-over-par 151 (75-76) after the first two rounds at The Gold Rush. Yun's performance is highlighted by a tournament-best two Eagles that she had on hole six in each round. Sophomore Jessica Hall sits T42nd with a 12-over 156 (75-81).Â

In addition to The Gold Rush, the remaining members of the Fresno State women's golf roster are competing at The Prospector, an individuals only event hosted by Long Beach State at El Dorado Golf Course. Sophomore Delana Basanisi is tied for first place after the first two rounds with a 5-over-par 149 (72-77). Basanisi's opening-round 72 is her career-low round. Senior Danielle Richman is in fourth place at The Prospector with a 10-over 154 (81-73) and fellow classmate Dominika Gradecka is in eighth place with a 161 (81-80).
