Bulldogs advance to PCV Championship match

FRESNO, Calif -- The Fresno State men's tennis team is headed to the championship match of the Pacific Central Valley Championship after wins over Lamar and Gonzaga on Saturday at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs swept Lamar for their first win of the day before a hard-fought three-hour win against Gonzaga.Â
Fresno State will face top-seeded Wichita State in the championship match on Sunday which will follow the third-place match (9 a.m. PT).
Singles - vs. LamarÂ
The Bulldogs took a lead early in the match, with Johannes Seeman winning at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-1 to kick things off. Following this were straight-wins at No. 3-5 positions from Alexey Aleschev, Cagatay Soke and Henrique Osorio that sealed the Bulldogs sweep over Lamar 4-0.Â
Doubles - vs. Gonzaga
The Bulldogs won the opening point in doubles play against Gonzaga with both the No. 1 spot pairing of Johannes Seeman and Cagatay Soke, and No. 3 pairing of Alexey Aleschev and Henrique Osorio winning 6-3, respectively.Â
Singles - vs. GonzagaÂ
After winning the point in doubles play Fresno State and Gonzaga saw four of their matches going to the third set.Â
The Bulldogs won the first point at the No. 3 spot from with an Alexey Aleschev 6-2, 6-4 victory.Â
Gonzaga claimed the the next two points with an Eric Hadigian win at the No. 6 position 6-2, 6-4, over Fresno State's Daniel Baturyn and Matthew Hollingworth topping Fresno State's Johannes Seeman 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.Â
However the 'Dogs finished the match with two wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. The first of which came from Cagatay Soke in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, and the latter from Henrique Osorio 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.Â
