FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State head women's basketball coach Jaime White completed the Bulldogs' 2020 signing class this week with a trio of junior college additions in Charisse Fairley, Maria Guimaraes and Yanina Todorova. The three join Daylee Dunn and Keely Brown who signed during the early period in November.
Fairley, a 5-foot-11 forward from Widefield, Colo., comes to Fresno after two seasons at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colo. As a sophomore, she helped Otero to a 26-5 record, posting 12.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Fairley shot 41.3 percent from the field and ranked 39th nationally in 3-point percentage at 37.2 percent (74-199).
This past season, Fairley was named to the Region 9 All-Conference Team and earned a spot on the Region 9 Tournament Team. At Widefield High School, she helped guide her to the Class 4A Final Four.
"Charisse is a versatile, long athletic player with the ability to impact the game from the 3-point line as well as on the defensive end," White said. "Often tasked to guard opposing opponents' best player, Charisse managed to average over four rebounds and 1.5 steals per game."
Guimaraes is a 6-foot-2 center from Odessa Junior College by way of Minas Gerais, Brazil. As a sophomore, she averaged 5.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Wranglers.
"Maria is a traditional back to the basket center," White noted. "She brings experience to the paint and has great speed and strength for her size. We are excited to continue to add Brazilian talent to our roster which was started with her former junior college teammate Wytalla Motta last season."
Todorova also comes to the Valley from Odessa JC where she was a two-time Region 5 all-conference honoree, earning a first team selection this year after averaging 10.7 points per game on 44.3 percent shooting from the field and 35.1 percent from 3. A native of Teliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, the 5-foot-10 guard has played at multiple levels on the international stage, most recently for the U20 Bulgarian national team at the 2019 FIBA European Championships where she averaged 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds en route to her team winning the Division B bracket.
"Yanina is a tall guard with extensive international experience," White said. "She had a great career at Odessa where she was recognized as an all-conference player in both of her years. She has the ability to shoot the 3 and get to the rim and was recognized as her team's best perimeter defender."
