COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State earned three spots on the Mountain West's all-conference men's tennis teams which were announced Thursday afternoon. Zdenek Derkas and Alexey Aleschev were named to the singles team while the pair of Cagatay Soke and Johannes Seeman were selected to the doubles team.
The 2019 MW Player of the Year, Derkas earned his third straight spot on the conference's postseason singles team. Against a tough non-conference slate that included the Bulldogs facing six top 50 opponents, the senior from the Czech Republic went 5-6 in singles play during the spring at the No. 1 spot. Derkas, who ranked as high as No. 124 nationally, went 1-2 against ranked opposition. The Bulldog's top win of the season came against then-No. 55 Tim Sandkaulen of Ole Miss (7-5, 7-6) at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
In his first year at Fresno State, Aleschev posted a 7-5 singles record during the spring playing primarily at the No. 3 and 4 positions. His seven wins were tied for the most on the team. Five of the junior's wins came at the No. 3 spot in the lineup (5-2). In the Bulldogs' eight wins, Aleschev recorded wins in six, posting a record of 6-1 in those matches.
Fresno State won eight doubles points on the season and the Bulldogs' No. 1 duo of Cagatay Soke and Johannes Seeman was the difference. The team recorded a 9-3 record, claiming wins every time the 'Dogs won the doubles point. Soke and Seeman were 6-1 on the year in the team's eight wins.
