FRESNO, Calif. – An annual summer staple is the release of the Phil Steele Magazine, and 2020 is no different as the college football guru's FBS all-conference team projections were released for the season. This year, the 'Dogs landed nine selections on his preseason All-Mountain West team.
Linebacker Justin Rice led the way for Fresno State as the only first team selection, but four were pegged to the second team. The Bulldogs' four second team picks were offensive tackle Syrus Tuitele, running back Ronnie Rivers, defensive tackle Kevin Atkins and linebacker Arron Mosby.
Three of Steele's five first and second team preseason selections are returning players from the 2019 All-Mountain West team. Last year, Rice was a first team pick, Rivers was on the second team and Atkins earned an honorable mention nod.
The Phil Steele Fresno State third team was exclusive to its special team unit, which landed Rivers on the list a second time, as a punt returner, and was joined by long snapper Jacob Westberry.
The fourth team was made up of defensive end Kwami Jones and defensive tackle Leonard Payne Jr.
