THE BREAKDOWN
Fresno State (8-6-3, 4-1-1 MW) vs. San Jose State (7-10-1, 4-5-1 MW)
Date: Thursday, Oct. 28
Time: 7 p.m. PT
Where: Fresno State Soccer Stadium (Fresno, Calif.)
Live Video: Mountain West Network
Live Stats: Bulldogslive.com
TOURNAMENT BOUND
With Fresno State's win at Nevada on Oct. 22, the Bulldogs clinched a spot in the Mountain West tournament. It is Fresno State's fourth straight trip to the conference tournament.
With one match remaining in Mountain West play, Fresno State is three points behind New Mexico in the race for first. To earn a share of the MW regular season title, the Bulldogs need a win on Thursday night and for San Diego to defeat the Lobos. Thursday's matches in Fresno and San Diego are the last to kickoff on the final match day with both starting at 7 p.m. PT.
ANY DAY BUT SUNDAY
Since conference play began, Fresno State is undefeated when playing on a weekday (4-0-1). Since earning a draw in their MW opener at Colorado College, the 'Dogs have won their last four weekday games, outscoring their opponents by a combined 7-1 and have posted three shutouts.
To say Fresno State has been dominant at home against Mountain West opponents in recent seasons is an understatement. In their last 18 home conference matches, which dates back to a 2-1 win over San Diego State on Sept. 30, 2018, their first win over the Aztecs since 2000, the Bulldogs are 13-2-3.
After not recording a point during the opening week of conference play, Kassandra Ceja has since been one of the most productive players in the Mountain West. The Bulldogs' offensive engine who is a threat any time she has the ball at her feet, Ceja sits is No. 4 in points (11), No. 3 in goals (4), No. 1 in game-winning goals (2) and is No. 7 in assists (3) through 10 conference matches.
Searching for goal scorers during the summer, Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka looked to last year's freshman sensation Kassandra Ceja, moving the midfielder up top. While Ceja hasn't disappointed in her second season, coming on in conference play to join her has been an overlooked freshman from Northern California--Kaelyn Miller. Underrecruited, the Bulldogs looked to have struck gold as the freshman has continued to grow her game and her production since stepping on campus. In league play, Miller is tied for the conference lead in goals (5) and game-winning goals (2), and is seventh in points with 10.
