HOUSTON -Â Former Diamond 'Dog Dylan Lee won his first World Series ring as a pitcher with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.
A 10th-round selection of the Miami Marlins in 2016, the Dinuba native appeared in 121 games over his first four seasons in the minor leagues before being released this spring and moving on to the Braves' minor league system in March.
In 35 games this season in Triple-A Gwinnett, Lee went 5-1 with 54 strikeouts and only walked six while holding opponents to a .176 average from the plate.Â
After getting called up to the Braves in late September, he made his major league debut at home against the New York Mets on Oct. 1 working an inning and struck out one.
He made his playoff debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers in game five of the NLCS on Oct. 21 after being an injury replacement and tossed two innings striking out two.
He made two appearances in the World Series, including starting game four on Oct. 30 to become the sixth former Diamond 'Dog to start a World Series game joining Dick Ruthven (1980), Bobby Jones (2000), Jeff Weaver (2006), Matt Garza (2008) and Doug Fister (2012).
In addition, he became the pitcher with the fewest career appearances (4) prior to a World Series start surpassing the previous low of seven made by Marty Bystrom of the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980.
Lee played for the Bulldogs in 2015 & 2016 after transferring to Fresno State from the College of the Sequoias.
In two years with the 'Dogs, Lee earned six wins in 42 appearances while working 86.0 innings and struck out 74.
He pitched a career-high 6.1 innings in a pair of starts in 2015Â against UNLV and Oregon State and struck out a career-high five in three outings and won a Mountain West regular season title in 2016.
