Chappell claims second hammer win this month

LAS VEGAS – For the second straight competition, Fresno State's Hannah Chappell left with a win in the hammer throw, this time at the UNLV Spring Invitational on Friday. The senior surpassed her previous personal record by nearly 15 feet.
Two weeks ago, Chappell set a personal best of 55.34m/181-7 in the season opener. On Friday, she shattered the mark with her final throw, topping out at 59.82m/196-3 which moved her to fifth in program history. Amelia DiPaola finished sixth in the event, setting a new personal record of 55.53m/182-2 while Tahj'nee Thurston placed seventh, narrowly missing her top mark after landing a toss of 54.89m/180-1.
On the men's side in the hammer, Andrew Remlinger finished seventh after setting a personal best with a mark of 46.15m/151-0, over 20 feet beyond his previous best.
Prior to hammer throw, the multis concluded. Freshman Garrett Ostrinski finished the decathlon in seventh with 5,978 points.
Day 3 of competition begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT.
