No. 11 Fresno State downs Concordia for third straight GCC win

FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 11 Fresno State water polo team earned its third consecutive Golden Coast Conference win on Saturday afternoon at the Aquatic Center, defeating Concordia 19-7. The Bulldogs improve to 7-4 (3-0 GCC) this season.
"The team had a good performance today," head coach Natalie Benson said. "We can see improvements in our vision and adaptability on defense. Again, another solid full-team effort, with everyone getting minutes."
Fresno State had a well-balanced attack with 11 different Bulldogs scoring in the contest. Juniors Daphne Guevremont and Yesenia Preciado led the offense with three goals apiece. Additional scorers included Emily Nicholson (2), Megan Greenwood (2), Sienna Jagielski (2), Claire Schade (2), Isabella Sonkoly (1), Tori Gacutan (1), Kaitlin Howarth (1), Mia Barr (1) and Grace O'Callaghan (1).
Goalkeepers Hope Stokes and Mackenzie Matheny split time in the cage. The duo combined for eight saves in the double-digit win.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs and Eagles exchanged goals to open the game. From that point forward, Fresno State took control of the attack, netting three consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead. Concordia managed to net a second goal before the end of the quarter, but the 'Dogs led 4-2 after eight minutes.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs were dominant, outscoring Concordia 5-1 to secure a 9-3 advantage at halftime.
Fresno State broke the game wide open in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 5-1 once again to push its lead to 14-4.
The Eagles struck first in the final frame, but Fresno State countered with five more goals. Concordia scored twice before the end of regulation for the final 19-7 result.
