No. 9 Fresno State falls to No. 15 SDSU, 13-12

SAN DIEGO – The No. 9 Fresno State water polo team fell to No. 15 San Diego State in a close game 13-12, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs fall to 7-5 (3-1 GCC) on the season.
Sophomore Kaitlin Howarth led the Bulldogs with a career-high four goals in the contest. In goal, Hope Stokes recorded 10 saves.
Additional goal scorers include Cynthia Rosa (2), Sienna Jagielski (2), Daphne Guevremont (1), Isabella Sonkoly (1), Sydney Coachman (1) and Claire Schade (1).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aztecs opened scoring and the teams exchanged goals for the first eight minutes. Fresno State held a 6-4 lead going into the second quarter. Fresno State extended its lead going on a 3-1 run in the second. The Bulldogs took a 9-5 lead into halftime.Â
SDSU found its offensive groove, going on a 3-0 run to open the third quarter which cut the Bulldogs lead to one goal (9-8). The Bulldogs responded with back-to-back goals from Hoawarth and Jagielski, but the Aztecs netted two goals of their own. Fresno State held a two-goal lead heading into the final quarter, 11-9.
SDSU scored four consecutive goals in the final quarter to take its first lead of the contest 13-11. Guevremont sent the ball to the back of the net with 12 seconds left to end the run, but the Bulldogs ran out of time, suffering their first lost of GCC play 13-12.
