No. 12 Fresno State bests No. 19 LMU on Senior Day

FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 12 Fresno State earned a hard-fought win against No. 19 LMU on Senior Day. The Bulldogs (8-5, 4-1 GCC) defeated the Lions (3-3, 3-3 GCC) 13-10 on Friday afternoon in the Aquatics Center.
The Bulldogs honored their seven seniors in Emily Nicholson, Maddie Loggins, Callie Woodruff, Sydney Coachman, Megan Greenwood, Claire Schade and Grace O'Callaghan.
"This class is special, as they are the first ones to say yes to the unique opportunity of starting a program," head coach Natalie Benson said. "They saw the potential, took a leap of faith, and have helped us lay a strong foundation for the program in the years to come. I am proud to have worked with these special women, and honored to have been a part of their journey."
Fresno State outshot LMU 36-16 in the contest. Junior Daphne Guevremont led the Bulldogs' offense with four goals and one assist. Mackenzie Matheny chalked the start in goal, and recorded three saves.
Additional goal scorers included Kaitlin Howarth (3), Sienna Jagielski (2), Nicholson (1), Woodruff (1), Emily Diacono (1) and Yesenia Preciado (1).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State and LMU were trading goals to start the game until the Bulldogs were able to put together back-to-back scores to take a 3-1 advantage. The Lions battled back, scoring back-to-back goals to finish the first quarter with a one-goal lead.
The Bulldogs ignited their offense in the second quarter, scoring three straight goals. The Lions chalked one more goal before time expired but the Bulldogs took a one-goal lead into halftime.
LMU scored the equalizer out of the huddle to start the third quarter, tying the game 6-6. The Bulldogs outscored the Lions 2-1 to finish the quarter, resulting in a one-goal lead for the 'Dogs going into the final quarter.
The Lions struck first to tie the game 10-10 with seven minutes left, but the Bulldogs scored the final three goals of the game to earn their fourth win of conference play.
