Bulldogs open MW play in San Diego

The Fresno State women’s tennis team is scheduled to face San Diego State and UNLV in San Diego this weekend.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team is scheduled to open Mountain West play this weekend in San Diego.
Fresno State (7-3) is set to face the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday and the UNLV Rebels on Sunday. Both matches are slated to start at 12 p.m. PT. Updates will be shared on Twitter via @FresnoStateWTEN.
The Bulldogs enters the weekend having won their final nonconference contests before beginning their conference season, which will have a new look this season with multi-team pods with each squad playing up to two matches at that one location in a two or three day span.
This is the first time that each MW team is scheduled to face all 10 conference opponents and crown a regular season champion. There will be no MW women's tennis tournament this season with the regular season champion earning the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Cristina Flaquer, Fresno State
Sophomore, Barcelona, Spain / LMU
- Combined for a 4-0 week to lead Fresno State to wins over CSUN (6-1) and Santa Clara (5-2) on back-to-back days to earn MW Player of the Week honors on March 24.
- In singles action, tallied a 2-0 mark while making her debut at the No. 2 singles position (playing up from her previous No. 3 slot).
- Defeated Santa Clara's Jamie Schroer (5-7, 6-4, 6-1) in Flaquer's career debut at No. 2 singles on March 20.
- Defeated CSUN's Ana Fraile Toboso in straight sets (7-5, 7-5) on March 21 to improve to 9-1 overall in singles this season.
- In doubles play, partnered with A.C. Hummel to beat SCU's Giulia Hayer and Nadine Del Carmen (6-1) and CSUN's Magdalena and Jenna Dorian (6-2) on March 20 and 21, respectively.
- Flaquer enters Mountain West play having won four straight singles contests.
Bulldog Bones
- Dalia Ahmed is 8-2 in singles play this season, including a 4-1 mark at the No. 1 singles position, and 8-0 overall in doubles, which includes a perfect 6-0 mark at No. 1 doubles for the Bulldogs.
- Fresno State's Dalia Ahmed and Deniza Marcinkevica are 6-0 when partnered in doubles this season with all six of those matches at the No. 1 doubles slot.
- Fresno State has won six of its last eight matches.
- Fresno state is 2-2 in road matches this season, which featured a pair of a 4-3 wins at Pacific (Feb. 26) and Cal State Fullerton (March 12).
- Fresno State head coach Denise Dy is in her first season leading the Bulldogs' program after coaching at Arizona, Washington and Iowa.
