Two minutes later, the Bulldogs grabbed the game's opening goal. Robyn McCarthy lofted a ball from outside the box into the penalty spot where Kassandra Ceja hit a side-footed volley back across the goal inside the right post.
Fresno State maintained the advantage through the remaining half hour until the break.

In the 64th minute, the Aztecs dropped a corner into the opposite side of the box that Anna Toohey struck from short range but O'Dell was there to knock it away. Chloe Frisch jumped on the loose ball and sent it over the Bulldog keeper who was still on the ground.
Just over two minutes later, the Bulldogs had a throw-in deep in the SDSU's end. The ball was headed out and quickly sent up field, catching the 'Dogs on their heels. On the break, Taylor Moorehead sent Toohey down the left channel. The forward cut back inside the box and sent a shot past O'Dell to the far post to give the Aztecs the go-ahead goal.
