'Dogs fall 12-4 at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The Diamond 'Dogs dropped a 12-4 contest to Stanford on Saturday afternoon at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond.
A seven-run first inning by the Cardinal was too much for Fresno State (7-9) to overcome as the 'Dogs saw their two-game winning streak snapped.
The Bulldogs totaled nine hits in the contest with senior outfielder Vinny Bologna going a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate as the Oklahoma transfer hit his first home run as a Bulldog.
Junior first baseman Ryan Higgins added a pair of extra-base hits recording a double and triple, drew two walks and scored a run. Sophomore catcher Zach Morgan added two singles, drove in a run and scored a run.
On the mound, sophomore Alex Kendrick made his second start of the season and suffered his first loss before giving way seven other hurlers who saw action.
Freshman right-hander Cooper Bergman threw two innings and struck out a season-high four before giving way to left-hander Ixan Henderson who threw two scoreless frames.
How It Happened
The Cardinal jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning using four hits and a Bulldog throwing error to put up a crooked number.
The 'Dogs responded with three runs of their own getting a run on a fielder's choice by EJ Andrews, Jr. in the third and added two more in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Josh Lauck and an RBI single by Morgan (watch).
Stanford responded with a two-run home run in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth to take a 10-3 lead to the seventh.
Bologna got the 'Dogs final run of the contest with a bomb to left field to lead off the seventh (watch). The Cardinal added two more runs in the bottom of the frame to make the final score, 12-4.
