LIVE: Stats • Live updates on Twitter
Series History: Cal leads, 8-4.
Â
QUICK LOOK - The Bulldogs are 1-6 this season. The lone win for Fresno State came on the road in a 20-11 victory at Kent State on Feb. 19. The Bulldogs opened the season with four-straight road games before having their first two home events in back-to-back games, followed by two more road games. Fresno State's game at Cal on Sunday will be the last nonconference road test for the 'Dogs this season.
Â
LAST TIME OUT - The Fresno State lacrosse team last fell at No. 20 USC, 20-7. USC was the first ranked opponent that the Bulldogs have met with this season.
Â
SECOND TIME AROUND - Fresno State and Cal will meet for the second time this season on Sunday. The teams competed in the Bulldogs' home opener on Mar. 5 and Cal earned a close 14-12 win. Senior midfielder Hannah Krats led the Bulldogs in scoring with four goals. The Mar. 5 meeting between the teams continued the trend of no team winning by more than two goals as the last four meetings have been decided by two goals or less.
Â
ROOKIE LEADING THE WAY - Fresno State freshman attacker Logann Eldredge has had herself a year. The Herriman, Utah native leads the team in both points (22) and goals (16) this season. She has been named the MPSF Rookie of the Week three times, becoming the first Bulldog to earn three Rookie of the Week honors since now-junior attacker Sydney Skalstad did so in 2019. Eldredge was last named the conference Rookie of the Week after her performance at No. 20 USC with three goals on seven shots, five on goal.
Â
TURNOVERS, BUT THE GOOD KIND - Fresno State leads the MPSF in caused turnovers per game, averaging 7.14 in a contest this season. The Bulldogs' defensive efforts are led by midfielder Hennessey Evans who has a team-high 12 caused turnovers on the year. Evans has recorded at least one caused turnover in every game this season and she is second, individually, in the MPSF standings. Hannah Krats (MF), Devon Ortman (D) and Abbigayle Roberts (D) are next on the team, each with six turnovers caused this season.
Â
GROUND BALL MAGNETS - Fresno State is No. 24 in the NCAA in ground balls per game (19.29). The Bulldogs have had 12 or more ground balls in every game this season. Fresno State had 35 ground balls at Robert Morris on Feb. 23. The 35 ground balls were the second-most in a game in program history.
Â
Roberts leads the team with 19 ground balls on the season. She is fresh off five ground balls at then-No. 20 USC last Sunday. The senior recorded a season-high six ground balls at RMU. Her six ground balls tied a personal career-best.
Â
HENNESSEY THE MIDDY - Fresno State sophomore midfielder Hennessey Evans is having another big year on both ends of the field. Evans is second on the team with 15 goals, 18 points, 17 ground balls, and a team-best 12 caused turnovers. She is the only Bulldog to have scored at least once in every game this season.
Â
FIREY ATTACK - The Bulldogs take shots, and lots of them. Fresno State is No. 33 in the nation in shots per game, averaging 31 per contest. Junior attacker Sydney Skalstad leads the team with 48 shots on the year. It's Eldredge, however, who has been the most productive with her attack. The freshman has taken 34 shots and scored 16 goals for a team-best .471 shooting percentage.
Â
COURTNEY IN THE CAGE - Senior goalkeeper Courtney Walburger had some big shoes to fill as she stepped up into the starting goalkeeper position in 2021, but she has not disappointed. Walburger has recorded a career-high 14 saves in back-to-back games for the Bulldogs. She ranks No. 7 in the country in saves (76), and No. 6 in saves per game (10.86).
Â
ENDURANCE FOR DAYS - Fresno State is sporting a minimal roster this season due to a number of reasons. The Bulldog lacrosse team is made up of just 18 student-athletes. Outside of the starting 12, there are not many available for substitutions in a game, but that has not stopped the 'Dogs from competing for a full 60 minutes.
Â
SCOUTING CAL - Cal is 1-6 this season with its only win being against the Bulldogs. The Bears have one game scheduled with Stanford before facing Fresno State this Sunday. The 14 goals against the Bulldogs were the most scored by the Cal offense all season. Cal has been out-shot 228-198 this season, and outscored 106-68. The Bears are on a four-game losing streak, all to conference opponents.
