The No. 12 Fresno State water polo team will open Golden Coast Conference play on the road, facing No. 20 CBU on Saturday morning.
BULLDOG BITES
- Fresno State is ranked No. 12.
- Fresno State ranks inside the Top 15 for the fourth consecutive week.
- Fresno State split its doubleheader against then-No. 12 UC Davis last weekend, defeating the Aggies 13-7 before falling in a close game 10-7.
- Fresno State has outscored its opponents this season 99-83, averaging 12.4 goals per game.
- The Bulldogs have seen three different goalkeepers in the cage this season.
- The last time the Bulldogs and the Lancers met, Fresno State was victorious 14-10 (2019).
- Fresno State returned two ACWPC All-America selections in Emily Nicholson and Daphne Guevremont. The Bulldogs also return All-GCC honoree Callie Woodruff to complete a stellar offensive unit.Â
- In 2019, the Bulldogs finished third in the GCC, the program's highest finish to date.
THE SCORING TRIOÂ
The Bulldogs have a dynamic offense this season lead by Callie Woodruff, Daphne Guevremont and Emily Nicholson. The trio has combined for 36 goals this season.Â
Woodruff ranks No. 2 in the GCC in goals (13), Guevremont ranks No. 3 (12) and Nicholson ranks No. 4 (11). In points, Guevremont ranks No. 2 with 20 and Woodruff ranks No. 3 with 19. Â
Nicholson has also been essential for the Bulldogs in the center position, chalking 34 drawn exclusions this season.Â
SCHADE DOES IT ALL
Senior Claire Schade leads the team in steals (14), assists (12) and sprint wins (6).Â
Nationally speaking, Schade ranks No. 5 in steals, No. 5 in assists per game (1.5), No. 6 in steals per game (1.8) and No. 7 in sprint wins (6). In the GCC, Schade leads the conference in assists, assists per game and sprint wins. She also ranks within the Top 3 in steals and steals per game.Â
SCOUTING THE LANCERSÂ
- CBU is ranked No. 20.
- CBU is 0-6 this season, coming off a 16-7 loss to No. 10 UC San Diego.
- All of CBU's losses this season have come from Top 10 teams.
- CBU finished the 2020 season with a 13-4 record.
- Kira O'Donell leads the Lancers this season with eight goals, six assists and 14 points.
- CBU has had three goalkeepers split time in the cage this season.
