SAN DIEGO - A high-scoring, back-and-forth affair went the way of San Diego State on Sunday afternoon as the Diamond 'Dogs dropped the series finale, 12-7 at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
Fresno State (3-4, 1-2 MW) surged back from a four-run deficit with a five-run fifth inning to take a 7-6 lead, but it was all Aztecs from there who scored six unanswered runs for the win.
The Bulldogs were led offensively by the trio of Zach Presno, Nate Thimjon and Vinny Bologna who each had two hits apiece while designated hitter Ryan Higgins smacked his first home run of the season.
Sophomore right-hander Kyle Pruhsmeier made his first start of the season, second of his career, on the mound tossing two innings and picked up a strikeout before giving way to Robbie Peters, Raul Salazar, Julian Sotelo and Cooper Bergman.

Higgins got the game off to a strong start for the 'Dogs with a leadoff home run to left-center and the 'Dogs added a run on a fielding error by the Aztecs that allowed second baseman Josh Lauck to score from third base.
With a 2-0 lead, Pruhsmeier worked a spotless first two innings before SDSU found its groove offensively scoring five runs with three run-scoring singles and an RBI groundout to take a 5-2 lead after three innings.
The 'Dogs answered back with a five-run inning of their in the fifth inning batting around the order in the frame. Held to only two hits, the 'Dogs took advantage of a pair of walks, sacrifice fly, hit by pitch, wild pitch and throwing error by the Aztecs to capitalize on a big inning.
With a leadoff single by Bologna and walks by Zach Morgan and Matt Ottino, a wild pitch allowed Bologna to score and push Morgan and Ottino each up a base. A sacrifice fly by Higgins drove home Morgan and a throwing error by SDSU at third base allowed Ottino to score while cutting the Aztec lead to 6-5. Thimjon followed with a single to left field to drive home both Andrew Kachel, who reached base on a hit by pitch, and Presno.
