Stephenson takes Bandon Dunes lead

Fresno State junior Tommy Stephenson has a two-stroke lead entering the final round of the 2021 Bandon Dunes Championship.
BANDON TRAILS, Ore. – Fresno State junior Tommy Stephenson took the lead of the 2021 Bandon Dunes Championship with a 6-under-par 65 on Monday at Bandon Trails Course.

Stephenson, who opened the three-round tournament with a 1-under-par 70 on Sunday and climbed to 7-under-par through the first 36 holes, carded seven birdies in the second round to earn a two-stroke lead entering Wednesday's final round on the challenging 6,752-yard course.

During Stephenson's back nine on Monday, the winds gusted to upwards of 20-to-30 miles-per-hour.

For the final 18 holes on Tuesday, Stephenson will be in the final group teeing off last on Hole No. 1 in the shotgun start with the Bulldogs tied for fourth-place at 2-over-par in the 14-team field, which includes a total of 80 players. Tuesday's play will start at 8:30 a.m. PT with live stats available at GolfStat.com.

Stephenson entered the competition having placed in the top 10 in each of his last three collegiate tournaments with his best career finish as a Bulldog coming back in his last outing in February when he tied for fourth in the 2021 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert.
