'Dogs earn runner-up finish at Fresno State Classic

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's golf team finished in second place in its annual home-hosted Fresno State Classic on Tuesday, led by junior Harriet Lynch's third-place individual finish, at Copper River Country Club.
Lynch entered the third and final round leading the 84-person field following a 36-hole program record 10-under-par performance (68-66) on Monday. She capped her tournament on Tuesday with a 3-over-par 75 and set a career-best 54-hole finish with a 7-under-par 209.
"I'm really excited for our team," head coach Emily Loftin said after the event. "It's always nice to earn a runner-up finish, particularly at home with a lot of great support. Harriet played fantastically to lead us, and I'm so proud of her efforts. This experience should serve us well as we prepare to take on the conference tournament next week."
Despite Lynch's personal-best performance, the strong showing was unable to hold up against Rachel Heck's round of Stanford on Tuesday. The Cardinal golfer fired a 9-under-par 63 to finish with a Fresno State Classic 54-hole record score, 16-under-par 200, to help guide them to the team championship. As a team, Stanford also set the low 54-hole tournament record with an 18-under-par 846. It bested the previous record set in 2019 by UC Irvine of 8-under-par 856.
The Bulldogs' team score was their lowest of the season, carding an 11-over-par 875 for their runner-up finish. In addition to Lynch's top 10 finish, senior Brigitte Thibault joined her as she vaulted herself up the leaderboard with a final-round 3-under-par 69 to place her tied for seventh. She was 1-under-par 215 for the tournament.
Junior Jessica Hall completed the Fresno State Classic T-27, shooting 7-over-par 223 while freshman Lory Paradis came in T-52 with her 14-over-par 230. Also in action was senior Kristin Simonsen, she finished T-62 with a 17-over-par 233.
The Fresno State Classic marked the end of the Bulldogs' regular season. In one week, the 'Dogs will be back in action for the Mountain West Championships, April 20-21. The annual event is held at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
