'Dogs continue winning streak with doubleheader sweep of Saint Mary's

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team opened its five-game homestand with a doubleheader sweep over Saint Mary's. The Bulldogs posted two shutouts over the Gaels, with an 8-0 run rule victory in game one before chalking a 5-0 victory in game two.
Fresno State (27-7, 11-1 MW) are rolling with a 10-game win streak. The Bulldogs outscored the Gaels 13-0 on the day, recording 14 hits including three home runs. Fresno State saw three different pitchers in the circle. The trio limited opposing batters to six hits and a .133 batting average.
Game One – After being held without a run for two innings, the Bulldogs put two runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Fresno State put two runners on base with a drawn walk and a fielder's choice. Hayleigh Galvan recorded the first hit of the game with an RBI single. The second run of the inning was brought across by another fielder's choice.
Fresno State tallied two more runs in the next inning to take a 4-0 lead. Back-to-back singles from Adrianna Noriega and Miranda Rohleder put two runners on. Alesia Denby plated the first run with a sacrifice fly to center field, and Scuylar Broussard brought home the second with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Bulldogs ended the game in the sixth with a four-run inning. Denby sent a one-out double to center field for the first multi-base hit of the day, she made her way to third after a wild pitch. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Fresno State. Kaitlin Jennings called it a game with her first career grand slam.
Hailey Dolcini chalked the win in the circle for the 'Dogs, logging 13 strikeouts in the contest. This marks her 10th game with 10+ strikeouts this season.
Game Two – Fresno State didn't waste time getting on the scoreboard in the second game. Jennings opened the first inning with a leadoff single to right field, she made her way to third with a stolen base and a sacrifice bunt. Jennings scored the first run after capitalizing on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs loaded the bases and Miranda Rohleder hit a RBI groundout to score the last run of the inning.
The Bulldogs plated two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Vanessa Hernandez drew a leadoff walk and Noriega followed with a two-run home run. This marked Noriega's fifth home run of the season.
Fresno State brought across the fifth run of the game in the final frame. Lexie Webb pinch hit for the Bulldogs and smashed a solo home run to left field. The Gaels were retired in the top of the seventh inning to secure the shutout.
Danielle Lung and Dariana Orme split time in the circle for Fresno State. The duo tallied three strikeouts and only allowed five hits.
Up Next – Fresno State will resume Mountain West play, hosting Nevada April 24-25.
