Fresno State sweeps doubleheader against Santa Clara on Tuesday

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team finished the day with two run rule victories over Santa Clara on Tuesday afternoon at Margie Wright Diamond. The Bulldogs (22-7, 8-1 MW) shutout the Broncos (3-10) 9-0 in game one, before posting a season-high runs in game two with a 17-3 win.
Fresno State was dominant offensively, recording 26 hits on the day, outscoring Santa Clara 26-3. Junior Adrianna Noriega went 3-for-5 and logged a team-high six RBIs.
In the circle, junior Danielle Lung pitched a complete game shutout in game one, chalking three strikeouts and only allowing three hits. In game two, Darian Orme threw 4.0 innings and tallied five strikeouts allowing three runs. Freshman Cassidy West finished the final inning of the game making her second appearance of the season, recording two strikeouts.
Game One – The Bulldogs went to work in the bottom of the first inning, taking a quick lead after Galvan smashed a two-run home run over the left field fence.
Fresno State tacked on two more runs in the next inning. Alesia Denby drew a leadoff walk and quickly made her way to third with a stolen base and a wild pitch. Alexandra Preston brought Denby home with a sacrifice fly. Back-to-back hits from Kaitlyn Jennings and Keahilele Mattson plated the second run of the inning.
The Bulldogs broke the game open in the bottom of third, posting a four-run inning on three hits including an RBI double from Adrianna Noriega and an RBI triple from Miranda Rohleder.
Fresno State wasn't done yet, Mattson opened the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot over the center field fence for the final run of the game and her sixth home run of the season. Â

The Bulldogs recorded their 12th shutout of the season.
Game Two – Santa Clara wouldn't be denied a run in the second game, plating two runs in the opening frame.
Fresno State's offense got going early, scoring eight runs on four hits. Jennings drew a leadoff walk and quickly made her way around the bases without a hit, scoring on two stolen bases and a wild pitch. Three consecutive walks loaded the bases and Noriega cleared the bases with a double. Three consecutive singles from the Bulldogs would bring in three more runs. Fresno State would finish off the inning with a sacrifice fly and a single to bring across the final two runs of the inning.

The Broncos managed to plate one more run in the top of the third inning.
Fresno State continued to pour the runs on in the bottom of the fourth, plating four more runs on two hits. Mackenna Steele hit a leadoff single for her first career hit as a Bulldog. An error by the Broncos' defense and hit by pitch, loaded the bases for Fresno State. The Bulldogs capitalized on a wild pitch for the first run of the inning. Rohleder tripled down the right field line for the second time in the game, bringing in the final three runs.
Fresno State has won 10 out of its last 11 games.
