STANFORD, Calif. - Fresno State senior Brigitte Thibault opened play at the Stanford Regional with a 1-under-par 70 in the first round at the Stanford Golf Course on Monday. Thibault, an at-large selection, was the lowest-scoring individual of those not participating as part of a team through the opening 18 holes.Â
Â
Thibault is tied for 12th in the 95-golfer field. She had two birdies on the front nine, and one on the back on Monday. With 13 pars on the day, the senior tied for the fourth-most by any golfer in the field. With her 70 on Monday, Thibault fired the lowest first round score by any Bulldog in an NCAA Regional event in the history of the program. Her opening 18-hole total tied for the second-lowest score ever by a Bulldog in any round in a regional event.
Â
For Thibault to advance to the national championship, she must be one of the three low scoring individuals at the Stanford Regional. A total of 384 participants have been selected for regional competition at one of four events. Of these players, 132 will advance to the championships finals. Six teams and three individuals will advance from each regional. The top six teams (24 total) and the low three individuals (12 total) not on a qualifying team from each regional will advance to the national championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 21-26.
Â
The second round of the Stanford Regional is set to take place tomorrow, with the third and final round on Wednesday. Thibault will tee off the second round at 8:50 a.m. from hole one.
