Kachel & Andrews, Jr. tabbed All-MW

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A pair of Diamond 'Dogs earned All-Mountain West honors, as announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon. All selections were voted upon by the league coaches based off conference-only statistics.
Sophomore infielder Andrew Kachel picked up his second career All-MW honor earning a spot on the first team while junior outfielder EJ Andrews, Jr. was tabbed to the second team for his first postseason All-MW accolade.
Starting all 34 Mountain West games for the 'Dogs with 22 starts at third base and 12 more at second, Kachel hit .324 from the plate leading the team in at-bats (136), hits (44), total bases (82) & tied for the team lead with eight home runs and added 10 doubles and two triples.
Leading the team with 16 multi-hit games in MW contests, Kachel had back-to-back three-hit performances in a doubleheader sweep at New Mexico on May 1 combining to go 6-for-10 with a double, two RBI and four runs scored. The Gilroy native closed out the season with three straight two-hit games in the 'Dogs series at Air Force recording a double in each game.
Making all 33 of his starts in center field, Andrews, Jr. led the Bulldogs in MW contests hitting .331, smacked seven home runs, tallied 42 hits, drove in 21 RBI, scored 34 runs, slugged .528 and drew 26 walks.
Ranking second on the club with 13 multi-hit contests, the Long Beach native went 4-for-4 with two singles, a triple, home run, two RBI and three runs scored in a 12-2 run-rule victory over UNLV on Senior Day on May 23.
The 'Dogs, who finished the season 20-25 and fifth in the Mountain West, have now earned 40 All-Mountain West selections over the last nine seasons in the conference with 23 first-team honorees and 17 second-team honorees.
