TYLER, Texas - Fresno State senior wide receiver Keric Wheatfall was announced to the 2021 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list, announced by the organization on Thursday. This is the second honor from the organization in Wheatfall's career as he earned a spot on the watch list in 2020.
Â
Wheatfall is on the list of 53 players, and is one of 20 wide receivers recognized this season. The senior from Cypress, Texas joins Nick Starkel (San Jose State) and CT Thomas (Boise State) as honorees from the Mountain West.
Â
Wheatfall was an All-Mountain West honorable mention selection in 2020, having started all five games he played. The senior had 23 receptions for 363 yards and one touchdown in the shortened season. He finished second on the team in receiving yards, despite having only played five of six games on the year.
Â
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.
The Watch List will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to 5 finalists in December. They will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans, and previous winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for January 12, 2022.
