'Dogs wrap up Cal Cup

BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 8 Fresno State had a 2-2 weekend at the 2022 Cal Cup.
The Bulldogs (3-5, 0-0 GCC) defeated No. 13 (T) UC Davis and No. 13 (T) Long Beach State, while falling to No. 4 Cal and No. 12 San Jose State.
Game 1 (vs. No. 4 Cal): The Bulldogs and the Golden Bears had an offensive shootout in the first quarter. Cal had a 5-4 lead after eight minutes. The Golden Bears pulled away in the second quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 4-1, to take a 9-5 lead into halftime. Cal managed to keep Fresno State's offense at bay in the second half to secure a 12-7 win.
Brooke Ochoa and Jillian Schultz lead the Bulldogs with two goals apiece. In goal, Paula Nieto Jasny played all 32 minutes and logged six saves.
Game 2 (vs. No. 12Â SJSU): Fresno State had a strong start against SJSU, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter. The Spartans countered with a four-goal quarter of their own to tie the game, 5-5 game at the half. SJSU held Fresno State scoreless in the third quarter, taking an 8-5 lead into the final quarter. The Spartans would score four more goals in the fourth quarter to take the close win, 10-9.
Emily Diacono led the Bulldogs with a hat trick. In goal, Paula Nieto Jasny played all 32 minutes and logged eight saves.
Game 3 (vs. No. 13 (T) UC Davis): Fresno State tabbed its first weekend of the tournament, defeating UC Davis 10-6.
Emily Nicholson and Fanni Muznay scored two goals apiece to lead the Bulldogs to victory. Goalkeeper Paula Nieto Jasny grabbed a weekend-high nine saves in the contest.
Game 4 (vs. No. 13 (T) LBSU): Fresno State battled for its second ranked win of the weekend, besting Long Beach State 14-9.
Fanni Muzsnay had a big game for the Bulldogs with six goals. Three additional Bulldogs have multi-goal games. Paula Nieto Jasny logged five goals in the win.
What's next:Â The Bulldogs will face No.1 USC on Friday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. PT.
