No. 8 Bulldogs wrap up busy weekend

LOS ANGELES – No. 8 Fresno State wrapped up a competitive weekend on the road. The Bulldogs posted a 15-9 win over No. 11 San Jose State, while falling to No. 1 USC and No. 3 UCLA.
Freshman Fanni Muzsnay continued her stellar offensive play over the weekend, netting 11 goals with three assists for a team-high 14 points. Muzsnay had an impressive five goals against No. 1 USC.
Sophomore Paula Nieto Jasny played all three games in goal for the Bulldogs. She tallied 27 saves over the weekend. She logged a career-high 14 saves in the win over the Spartans.
GAME 1 vs. No. 1 USC – The Bulldogs and the Trojans exchanged goals to open the contest. USC went on a 3-0 run to close the quarter, but Emily Nicholson found the back of the net with two seconds left to make it a 4-2 game at the end of the first eight minutes.
The teams exchanged two goals apiece to start the second quarter. The Trojans would extend their lead by netting back-to-back goals, taking an 8-4 advantage into halftime.
USC had a three-goal streak to start the third quarter, before Muzsnay scored her fourth goal of the evening to end the run. The Trojans went into the fourth quarter with a 11-5 lead.
USC netted two consecutive goals, but Nicholson countered with back-to-back goals for Fresno State. Daphne Guevremont would make it three in a row for the Bulldogs, closing in on the Trojans' lead 13-8. Fresno State outscored USC 3-2 down the stretch, but the Trojans would take the win 15-11.
Game 2 vs. No. 3 UCLA – The Bulldogs and the Bruins exchanged two goals apiece before UCLA strung together two consecutive goals to gain a 4-2 lead after one quarter.
The Bruins scored to open the second quarter, but the Bulldogs countered with three-straight goals to tie the game, 5-5. UCLA closed the quarter on a 2-0 run to retake the lead going into halftime.
UCLA netted five consecutive goals in the third quarter, holding Fresno State without a goal.
Muzsnay scored three-straight goals to finish the game, but the Bruins took the win 12-8.
Game 3 vs. No. 11 San Jose State – The Bulldogs and the Spartans came out firing on offense, both scoring four goals in the first quarter.
Fresno State took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring San Jose State 6-1. The Bulldogs took a 10-5 advantage into halftime.
The Bulldogs continued dominating on offense through the third quarter by outscoring the Spartans 4-2.
Fresno State entered the final quarter with a 14-7 lead. San Jose State scored two more goals before the end of regulations, but the Bulldogs took home the win.
