MW features 12 'Dogs as all-conference players

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West announced on Tuesday its all-conference teams and individual awards for the 2022 season. The Bulldogs were represented by four first team picks, three second team picks and five honorable mention selections for a total of 12 picks this season. The teams are voted upon by the 12 Mountain West football head coaches, and select media members from each of the 12 markets.

First team selections were quarterback Jake Haener, wide receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper, running back Jordan Mims and defensive end David Perales.

Second team picks include wide receiver Nikko Remigio, offensive lineman Bula Schmidt, and defensive back Evan Williams. Remigio was selected as both a second team wide receiver and a punt returner.

Fresno State's five honorable mention honorees were linebackers Levelle Bailey and Malachi Langley, offensive linemen Mose Vavao and Jacob Spomer, and tight end Raymond Pauwels Jr.

- Air Force senior running back Brad Roberts has been honored as the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, while San José State junior defensive lineman Viliami Fehoko was named the MW Defensive Player of the Year. San Diego State senior punter/place-kicker Jack Browning earned MW Special Teams Player of the Year and Boise State quarterback Taylen Green has been selected as the MW Freshman of the Year. Andy Avalos of Boise State is the MW Coach of the Year.
First team player notes:
JAKE HAENER, QB
- Jake Haener earns his first career first team all-conference nod. He was a second team quarterback in 2021, and earned honorable mention in 2020.
- Haener started all eight games played for Fresno State, missing four games due to injury suffered in Week 3's matchup at then-No. 7 USC. Haener is 5-0 as a starter against MW teams this season.
- Haener is averaging 304.00 passing yards per game this season. His average in eight games leads the conference and is the 10th-best among FBS quarterbacks.
- Haener has totaled 2,432 yards passing in just eight games, enough for second in the Mountain West despite the gap in games played.
- Haener has tossed 17 touchdowns, enough for second-most in the MW this season. He has had at least one passing touchdown in every game this season.
- Haener has a league-leading six 300-yard passing games this season.
- Haener has the top four passing performances among all Mountain West quarterbacks this season - 394 yards against San Diego State, 377 yards against Cal Poly, 361 yards at Nevada, and 360 yards against Oregon State.
- In his first four games since his return from injury, Haener totaled 1,395 yards and 12 touchdowns passing, with a 300-yard performance in each game. He passed at a 77 percent clip since Oct. 29.
- This season, Haener has thrown for three of the program's top four all-time single game completion percentages - No. 2 (.857 vs Cal Poly), No. 3 (.828 vs Hawai'i) and No. 4 (.824 at UNLV).
- Haener was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week twice in the four week span since his return.
- Haener led Fresno State to scoring 15 points in just 13 seconds of game time, stunning the San Diego State defense as time expired in the Battle for the Old Oil Can in his first game back from injury (Oct. 29).
- According to Pro Football Focus, Haener has the highest passing grade of all quarterbacks on the West Coast, and the eighth-highest overall (90.2).
- Haener, who was chosen as a permanent team captain this season, is a large part of the success in Fresno State's biggest turnaround to a season in program history.
JALEN MORENO-CROPPER, WR
- Jalen Moreno-Cropper earns his first career first team All-Mountain West recognition. He was a second team wide receiver in 2021, and earned honorable mention in 2020.
- Moreno-Cropper started all 12 games at wide receiver for the Bulldogs.
- Moreno-Cropper is Fresno State's leading receiver with 74 receptions for 984 yards. His 984 yards receiving are a single-season career-best for the Bulldog senior.
- Moreno-Cropper leads the Mountain West in receptions per game (6.17), receptions (74), is third in receiving yards per game (82.0) and second in total receiving yards (984).
- Moreno-Cropper is third in the MW in receiving touchdowns with five on the season.
- Moreno-Cropper ranks No. 24Â in the FBS in receiving yards and No. 18 in receptions per game. He is No. 32 in the FBS in receiving yards per game.Â
- Moreno-Cropper is responsible for 14 plays of 20 or more yards this season - 13 receptions and one rush.
- Moreno-Cropper is second in the Mountain West with three 100-yard receiving games this season.
- Moreno-Cropper had a 75-yard touchdown catch from Logan Fife at New Mexico - that marked the 18th longest pass completion in program history.
- Moreno-Cropper caught a pass in each game this season, continuing his active streak with a catch in 35-straight games.
- Moreno-Cropper is a large part of a Fresno State offense that is the top scoring and total offense in the Mountain West.
JORDAN MIMS, RB
- Jordan Mims earns his first career first team All-Mountain West recognition, and the first all-conference nod of his career.
- Mims became the first Bulldog since 2014 to rush for 1,000 yards. He is Fresno State's leading rusher with 1,080Â yards on 218Â carries.
- Mims is one of six (two at the time of nomination)Â 1,000 yard rushers in the Mountain West this season, being a part of an offense that is traditionally a pass-heavy offense.
- Mims is second in the Mountain West in rushing yards, sixth in all-purpose yards (1,174), third in rushing attempts (218), second in rushing touchdowns (14).
- Mims has run for five 100-yard rushing games this season, the most in a season for the senior. It is the most in a season by a Bulldog since 2014. Mims has the third-most 100-yard rushing games of the season, among MW players.
- Mims is in the Top 25 in the FBS in rushing touchdowns, rushing yards, and total touchdowns.
- Mims has an active streak of seven games with at least one rushing touchdown.
- Mims had the second longest run of his career and tied for the 11th longest run in program history with an 82 yard run at Nevada. His 82-yard run was the second-longest by any player in the MW this season.
- Mims was responsible for 11 total plays of 20 or more yards this season, 10 carries and one pass reception.
- Mims is a large part of a Fresno State offense that is the top scoring and total offense in the Mountain West.
DAVID PERALES, DE
- David Perales earns his first career first team All-MW honor. He was a second team pick in both 2020 and 2021.
- Perales was Fresno State's starting defensive end in all 12 games this season.
- Perales led the defensive line in every category - tackles (45), tackles for loss (15.0), sacks (10.5), interceptions (1), broken up passes (3), quarterback hurries (6) and forced fumbles (2).
- Perales leads the Mountain West and ranks seventh in the FBS in sacks.His 10.5 sacks are the seventh-most in a single season in program history.
- Perales is third in the Mountain West and 20th in the FBS in tackles for loss. His 15.0 TFLs are the seventh-most in a season in program history.
- Perales set a personal single-season career-best tackles for loss and sacks this season. He had streaks of four games with at least 1.0 sack and six games with at least 1.0 tackles for loss.
- Perales brought the pressure and helped lead Fresno State to a 17-10 win against one of the top offenses in the Mountain West in San Jose State (Oct. 15). He finished the game with five tackles, all for a loss and 4.0 sacks.
- Perales had the most sacks in a game (4.0) by any Mountain West player this season and the second-most in a game among all FBS players this season. It was the most sacks in a game by a Bulldog since at least 2000, and the most by any MW player since the 2019 season.
- With another career-high 5.0 tackles for loss against SJSU, Perales had again the most TFLs in a game by any MW player this season and the second-most in a game by any FBS player.
- Perales had the most TFLs in a game by a Bulldog since 2014, and the second-most by any MW player in the history of the league.
- Perales grabbed his first career touchdown at Nevada. It was the first time a Bulldog defensive lineman had a reception since 2018.
- Perales was a part of a Bulldog defense that held opposing teams to a combined 13 scoreless quarters, including two complete half shutouts.
- Perales, a chosen game captain for 10 of 11 games this season, is a large part of the success in Fresno State's biggest turnaround to a season in program history.
