The Bulldogs' offense continued its success from last week, totaling 572 yards of total offense in the win and the most by the Bulldogs in a conference game since 2020. Fresno State's defense was on point on Saturday night, limiting Hawai'i to three scoreless quarters. Fresno State won the turnover battle as the only turnover of the game was an interception by the Bulldogs defense.Â
How It Happened
With the Bulldogs winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half, Hawaii received the opening kickoff and went on an 11-play, 44-yard drive that ended with a 48-yard field goal attempt by Matthew Shipley that sailed wide right.
Taking over at their own 31-yard line, the 'Dogs drove 56 yards in 10 plays down to the Hawaii 13 setting up a 31-yard field goal for Abraham Montano for an early 3-0 lead.
The next drive saw Hawaii quarterback Brayden Schager toss an interception to Bulldog defensive back Cam Lockridge, a transfer from Hawaii, who returned it 31 yards for a touchdown and pushed the 'Dogs in front, 10-0.
Forcing the Rainbow Warriors to a three-and-out, the 'Dogs took over at their own 19 getting back-to-back passes from Jake Haener to Nikko Remigio combining for 49 yards that brought the Bulldogs down to the Hawaii 29. A seven-yard reception to Mac Dalena and a 22-yard touchdown run to the left by Jordan Mims extended Fresno State's lead to 17-0.
Outgaining the Rainbow Warriors, 137-85 in the first quarter, the 'Dogs got the second quarter started forcing a turnover on downs on defense before getting the ball back at their own 29 and going on a 14-play, 71-yard drive that ended with Haener connecting with Jalen Moreno-Cropper for a seven-yard touchdown score and a 24-0 lead.
Adding to the lead at the end of the first half, Haener found Erik Brooks in the right corner of the end zone for an acrobatic 16-yard touchdown reception for a 31-0 advantage at the break.
The offense did not let up in the second half scoring a quick 10 points to start the third quarter, getting a 25-yard field goal from Dylan Lynch and a 59-yard touchdown toss from Haener to Moreno-Cropper.
A fourth touchdown pass of the night saw Haener find Remigio from 11 yards out in the fourth quarter to extend the 'Dogs lead to 48-0.
One final score in the final quarter saw the 'Dogs drive six plays and 76 yards ending with a seven-yard touchdown run by Elijah Gilliam that put the Bulldogs up 55-0.
Breaking up the shutout bid, Hawaii added a pair of late touchdowns to make the final score, 55-13 in favor of the Bulldogs.
