Bulldogs begin 2023 season in January

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State's women's tennis team will be back in full swing for the Spring 2023 season, which is set to start in January at the Fig Garden Swim & Racquet Club in Fresno.Â
The 2023 schedule is made up of 15 nonconference matches against some great competition, with two weekends of home matches (Feb. 10-12 & Feb. 24-26) in February. All other home matches, besides the opener, will be played on campus at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
In its early season slate, Fresno State, who qualified for the ITA Kickoff Weekend for the first time since 2018, will play road matches against No. 1 Texas, No. 38 Oregon and No. 47 Arizona, and will face either No. 25 Baylor or No. 30 LMU in Austin, Texas.
In total, Fresno State will play eight teams ranked in the ITA's Top 75, including hosting No. 69 Washington State (Feb. 11), No. 70 Cal Poly (Feb. 12) and No. 75 CSU Fullerton (Feb. 26).
Conference play begins with weekend matches as well (March 24-26), followed by four road trips for the last eight matches of MW play.
The 2023 MW Championships will be held in Las Vegas at the Darling Tennis Center (April 26-29).
In the Spring of 2022, Fresno State won the MW regular season conference title as an undefeated team (10-0) in conference play and went 20-4 overall.Â
Fresno State signed four freshmen (Meshkatolzahra Safi, Gianna Mastro, Mariia Vyshkina, & Leann Serna), solidifying the line-up and earning Fresno State a spot in the Top 15 recruiting class of 2022.Â

On the 2023 season…
"This upcoming spring season we are returning five out of six starters from last year's Mountain West Regular season championship and have a few freshmen looking to make an immediate impact. We have a very competitive and exciting preseason with a handful of highly ranked teams that will continue to push us towards our goal in becoming Mountain West Champions. In addition, our conference rivals have had great fall seasons. We're looking forward to a competitive season with this amazing group of players and our three seniors, who have shown a lot of grit and determination." Â
