COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Following her first appearance for Fresno State, Rhiannon Genilla was named Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. The junior earned the weekly honor after her season-opening win in the javelin at the Kim Duyst Invitational.
Genilla, a Manteca, Calif. native opened her Bulldog career by throwing a personal best 48.20m/158-2. Her mark ranked No. 1 in NCAA after the opening week and currently sits No. 3 following the second week of the outdoor season.
This marks the second straight season that Fresno State has had a thrower earn MW Field Athlete of the Week following Hannah Chappell in 2021. The Bulldogs previously hadn't had a Field Athlete of the Week honor since 2016.
