Maffo lands program's No. 2 mark

FRESNO, Calif. – Coming off a win last week in the hammer at Cal Poly with the third-best throw of her career, Nadia Maffo had a performance on Friday that she won't soon forget. With a new personal record on her first throw at the West Coast Relays, the senior transfer won the event with a mark of 65.32m/214-4. It was her third win in four meets this spring.
While her first throw was her best of the afternoon, Maffo also landed throws of 65.01m/213-3 and 64.55m/211-9 on her final two throws. All three attempts surpassed her previous PR of 64.53m/211-8 which she set in 2019. Maffo's new personal record ranks second in program history behind Sharon Ayala's 66.52m/218-3 which has stood since 2009.
Led by Maffo, Fresno State claimed four of the top five spots. Finishing in second was Tahj'nee Thurston who set a new personal best at 60.90m/199-10. Hannah Chappell placed 60.47m/198-4 and Amelia DiPaola landed a season-best 58.55m/192-1.
On the men's side, Charles Remlinger earned a spot in the finals and placed eighth with a mark of 53.65m/176-0, his second throw over 53 meters this spring.
