Pace, Sotelo earn wins at West Coast Relays

CLOVIS, Calif. – Fresno State earned pair of wins on Friday at the West Coast Relays behind personal bests from Rachela Pace and Julian Sotelo at Veterans Memorial Stadium. A trio of Bulldog throwers also added three more top-five results.
Sotelo grabbed the first win of the day in the javelin landing a throw of 59.69m/195-10, his top mark of the year which is just outside the program's Top 10. It was the Bulldogs' first win, and fourth top-three finish in his first year in the program.
Rachela Pace followed up with a PR in the triple jump to grab her win. On her third attempt, the freshman recorded a jump of 12.36m/40-6.75. The Maltese athlete's mark ranks No. 8 all-time in program history.
Fresno State claimed two of the top four spots in the shot put. Cierra Jackson launched a personal best of 15.24m/50-0 on her fifth attempt to place second. The mark ranks fifth all-time at Fresno State. Two spots behind her was Amelia DiPaola at 14.47m/47-5.75.
Rhiannon Genilla opened the day's events with a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 44.58m/146-3. Former Fresno State All-American Vanja Spaic, competing unattached, won the event with a new meet, stadium and Bosnian national record of 55.32m/181-6.
