No. 8 'Dogs win 10th straight

FRESNO, Calif. – No. 8 Fresno State defeated Cal Baptist 10-4 on Friday afternoon in the Aquatics Center. The Bulldogs have won 10 straight games to improve to 13-7 and remain a perfect 4-0 in GCC play.
Freshman Fanni Muzsnay led the Bulldogs on offense with four goals on nine shots. Muzsnay also recorded two drawn exclusions and three steals. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Paula Nieto Jasny played 24 minutes in the cage, logging six saves and three steals. Abigayle Armstrong took over in the fourth quarter, grabbing two saves for the 'Dogs.
Additional goal scorers included Sienna Jagielski (2), Emily Nicholson (2), Savannah Fitzgerald (1) and Kelsey McKenney (1).
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
The Bulldogs opened scoring in the contest with Jagielski finding the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Muzsnay gave Fresno State a 2-0 advantage after swiping a steal and finishing the play on the other end of the pool. Nieto Jasny had two steals and two saves in the first quarter to help shutout the Lancers for the first eight minutes of the game.
The Lancers' offense broke through to start the second quarter with a goal, cutting the Bulldogs' lead in half. Fresno State got back to work on the offensive end as Jagielski logged her second goal of the game off a pass from Brooke Ochoa. Nicholson quickly made it a 4-1 game, after drawing an exclusion and scoring on the power play. CBU responded with a counterattack goal, making it a two-goal game with 3:15 left in the second quarter. The 'Dogs went on a run with back-to-back goals from Muzsnay and Nicholson, before Muzsnay recorded a hat trick with another steal and score.
Fresno State took a 7-2 lead into halftime.
CBU was whistled for a penalty to start the third quarter. Muzsnay converted the penalty shot for her fourth goal of the day. Fitzgerald capitalized on a power play to make it five straight goals for the Bulldogs. The Lancers ended their scoring drought by finding the back of the net with 1:40 left in the third quarter. Fresno State took a 9-3 lead into the final quarter.
The teams exchanged goals in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs posted a 10-4 win to improve to 13-7 and remain a perfect 4-0 in GCC play.
