Notes on the Fresno State Representatives:
Head Coach Jeff Tedford
- Tedford made his return to the helm of the program in December 2021, officially being named head coach on Dec. 8, 2021. He is serving in his second stint as head football coach at Fresno State, previously the head coach from 2016-19.
- In his first stint as the Bulldogs' head coach, Tedford inherited a 1-11 football program when he took over the reins of his alma mater and in three seasons all he's done as the 19th head football coach in Fresno State history is lead the program to a 26-14 record, a 2018 Mountain West Championship, two MW West division titles and two bowl wins.
- The renaissance under Tedford led to FBS history being made as Fresno State became the first team to secure back-to-back double-digit winning seasons following a double-digit loss season.
- Great success brought great notoriety as Tedford was named the 2017 Mountain West Coach of the Year, was a semifinalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award presented by the Maxwell Football Club, a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, and the AFCA Region-5 Coach of the Year.
- Tedford has a 108-71 record as a Division I head coach
Quarterback Jake Haener
- Haener returns for the Bulldogs as a sixth-year senior, having began his playing career at Washington before transferring to Fresno State in 2019.Â
- Haener was a 2021 second team All-Mountain West questerback, throwing for 4,096 yards and 33 touchdowns.Â
- Haener was the first Bulldog quarterback to throw for over 4,000 yards since Derek Carr (2013), and just the third QB to do so in program history. He joins both Derek and David Carr as the only Bulldogs to do so.Â
- The senior quarterback has earned a handful of preseason recognitions - first team all-conference (Phil Steele), first team all-conference (Athlon Sports), fourth team all-american (Phil Steele) and a spot on the Shrine Bowl 1000.
Defensive Back Evan Williams
- Williams enters his senior season as a fourth-year player. Making a quick impact as a true freshman in 2019, Williams has grown into a leadership role on and off the field for the Bulldogs.Â
- Williams was one of two first team all-conference selections in 2021, becoming the first Bulldog DB to earn first team honors since 2018, and the first safety since 2014.Â
- Williams finished the 2021 season with a team-leading 92 tackles. He also led the team in interceptions (3), broken up passes (6), and fumble recoveries (2).
- Williams recorded five double-digit tackle performances in 2021, the most by a Bulldog defensive back since 2016.
- Preseason honors have rolled in for Williams, being named a first team all-conference selection by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports, while also earning a spot on the Shrine Bowl 1000.
