Senior defensive end David Perales earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the 2022 Rotary Lombardi Award®
HOUSTON - Fresno State senior defensive end David Perales has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Rotary Lombardi Award®, announced by the Rotary Club of Houston on Monday afternoon.
Perales is one of 77 players on the preseason watch list for the award presented annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman, who in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi. Perales is one of three players from the Mountain West, joined by San Jose State defensive end Viliami Junior Fehoko and San Diego State linebacker Caden McDonald.
Perales enters his sixth year of collegiate football in 2022. Transferring to Fresno State from Sacramento State in 2019, Perales has made an impact on the defensive line for the past two seasons. Being named a team captain in 2021, Perales stepped up as a leader on the defense while recording the most tackles on the defensive line with a single-season career-best 40 stops. Perales also had single-season career-best marks in tackles for loss (13.0) and sacks (7.0) a season ago. His 13.0 tackles for loss accounted for 72 yards lost, a team-best yards lost. A force on the line, Perales had seven-straight games with at least 1.0 tackles for loss from Sept. 24-Nov.25 last season.
In his brief Fresno State career (19 games), the Merced, Calif. native has totaled 73 tackles, 22.5 tackles for a loss of 108 yards, 11.0 sacks for a loss of 82 yards, seven forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three quarterback hurries and one pass block. He was named a second team All-Mountain West defensive end in both 2020 and 2021.
