Bulldogs held scoreless in season opener
8/18/2022 10:20:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – Like a season ago, Fresno State's soccer team was held scoreless in its season opener in the Pacific Northwest. Against a Washington squad that saw the return of some of its top players from its Sweet 16 team two seasons ago, the Bulldogs fell 3-0 at Husky Soccer Stadium.
How It Happened
The Huskies wasted little time catching the Bulldogs on their back foot. A left to right switch found Karlee Stueckle in the box. A square ball into the six to Kyla Ferry was redirected inside the near post 54 seconds into the match. Stueckle then doubled UW's lead in the 13th minute getting on the end of a ball over the top and hitting a strike past Ella Wilson.
After consistent pressure throughout the half, Washington added a third in the 35th minute as Hailey Still headed in a corner.
Wilson came up with five of her eight saves in the opening 45 minutes as the 'Dogs were outshot 14-1.
Scoring Summary
0:54 – UW – Kyla Ferry (Karlee Stueckle)
12:26 – UW – Karlee Stueckle
34:37 – UW – Hailey Still (Cori Sullivan)
Notes
The Bulldogs will remain in the Emerald City as they look to rebound on Saturday against Seattle U. Kickoff at Championship Field is set for 7 p.m. PT.
